Hockey Success!
Congratulations to the two Hockey Teams - success at last! Team 1 (Year 4) won all their matches except for one draw. Team 2 (Year 3) won all their matches except for 1 (against our team 1!). They were clearly the strongest players out of a total of 10 teams. Once again, they displayed excellent sportsmanship, played fair and worked well on being proud whilst considering the feelings of other teams. We were a bus full of happy people on the way home and to quote Megan; "I can't believe it!"
Team 1 have qualified for the regional final at the end of this month - good luck!

KS 2 Football
The long grass, sloping pitch and torrential rain didn't deter our team yesterday!
In an 8 a-side against Penny Bridge, the team played well despite the final result being 2-0 to Penny Bridge.
After a regroup and with positive spirits we went on to win the next match against Broughton 5-1.
Well done team - you were amazing!

Years 5 and 6 Cross Country
Six Year 5 and 6 runners braved the weather and mud on Tuesday 22nd October to compete in the Furness area cross country event held at Furness Academy. Well done to Eddie and Ross in Year 5, finishing 13th and 16th respectively. Year 6's all finished towards the front of the field - well done Matthew, Merryn, Charlotte and Carrie. An extra congratulations to Carrie who finished 7th overall and will go on to represent Burlington School at the county finals later in the year!
It was tempting to make the children run home after we saw how much mud they had splashed up their legs and backs!
Years 3 & 4 hockey tournament
On Friday 18th October our two hockey teams played in a tournament at Dowdales. The teams were mixed boys and girls. The year 3 team played extremely well for their first time and I'm sure they will hone their skills further before next year's tournament. Well done Year 4's for winning both their matches 7-0 and 4-0, reaching the final and finishing in a very close 2nd place. There were lots of smiles and fantastic sportsmanship displayed when winning and losing.

After School Sports Clubs:
The after - school sports clubs are well underway with good attendance in all sessions.
I will pop around with the camera soon and put some photos on the blog.
The circus skills session on Wednesdays looks like a fun - especially the devil sticks! Thanks to Brian for doing such an excellent job.
The gymnasts are all working hard on their routines for the Keysteps competitions later in the year - I'm sure they will look amazing in their new leotards.
Our netballers are working hard on their defending and attacking techniques - they will be playing their first match of the season soon.
Tom is enjoying his Multi Sport sessions on Fridays - and the children are always keen to get to his club!
If your child would like to join any of these clubs then please just contact school. They are all free apart from Multi -Sports (but it is v.good value!).

Small Schools Football League Burlington V Broughton
Team: Ed, Ross, Andrew, Harvey, Jacob, Bryn and Ella.
Score: Burlington 2 Broughton 3
A close game with both sides fairly evenly matched in ability. After a nervous start and 2 goals down, Burlington picked up their pace allowing Team Captain Ross to deliver 2 goals to equalise.
Broughton just managed to sneak a goal in towards the end.
An exciting game to watch.
Well done Ella for such a fierce defence!
Well done everyone for displaying a good sporting attitude.

Local Club Links
The Local Club Links menu is to help you find out more about getting involved in a new sport.
The list is not exhaustive but should be a good starting point. If you can recommend any other sporting clubs in the locality then please let me know and I will add them to the menu.
Remember to always check that club coaches are appropriately qualified and are CRB checked.

Football
Burlington Year 3 & 4 Football team came 3rd in the Dowdales tournament this term, only losing one game.
Jacob's defence was outstanding and was well supported by Patrick. The strong attack came from Ed, Harvey and Jack with Andrew making a welcome new addition to the team as goalkeeper. Well done boys!

Mini Olympics
Our Key Stage 1 team did a fantastic job at the Mini Olympics held at Dowdales. Don't they look proud with their certificates?!
Year 5 & 6 aquathlon
A fun morning was had at Ulverston Lakes Leisure as the Burlington Team took part in the annual aquathlon event. All the team finished in the top half of the field and 5 of them were in the top 20!
The team had to swim one length followed by transition into running a lap of cricket pitch. Mrs Atkinson is confident that the toggles made the difference!
